How to Obtain a U.S. Passport

To obtain a U.S. passport one must be born in the U.S., derived citizenship by birth from parents who were citizens or through the process of Naturalization. In any case passport applications can be obtained at any U.S. Post Office. Submittal requires photographs, certain required documentation outlined on the form and payment of all required filing fees. Passports can be issued for 2 different periods of validity. Normally, they are processed in less than 60 days but on some occasions they can be expedited.
