Because of the devastation to Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama the USCIS has offered some temporary help to those immigrants directly affected as follows;
- it will consider accepting on a case by case basis late filed applications for Extensions of Stay and Change of Status. Applicants must prove how the storm directly impacted their ability to timely file.
- foreign students in the F-1 category may file an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to work off campus or for extended hours based upon extreme hardship if the students source of funds from its sponsor was materially affected. Check with your Designated School Official DSO) for more details,
- the USCIS will expedite processing of permanent resident petitions and Advanced Parole (travel documents) of those immigrants so affected.
